Welcome founder 🤝

Push to Start is a newsletter & podcast dedicated to helping early-stage startup founders cut through the noise and focus on what matters.

The channel I wish existed when I first got started.

As a first-time founder, I noticed just how much information was out there. An answer to every problem, a wealth of advice, inspiring stories, and accessible tooling. But, ultimately a double-edged sword. So much information can paralyze decisions, and quite frankly, more than half of it was bullsh*t to make the author look smart.

Inspiring and unique startup stories only carry motivation so far. Until you walk the talk, and realize those acts of odds-defying and inspiring stories didn’t give you the tools you needed to unf*ck yourself.

While there is no winning startup formula, there are principles and frameworks that carry you a long way.

Want to see what other founders focus on when building a startup? See for yourself.

How this works

Each week, I interview founders to bring you a masterclass-style podcast to help you go from zero to one, in the areas that really matter.

Plus, every other week you’ll receive essays on fundamental topics – at the intersection of education, advice, and research. They’re a long read, but they’re valuable.

About me

I’m Tim James, a startup founder out of Australia. After spending the first decade of my career working with product teams across startups, scale-ups, and enterprises, I started my own venture in 2019. Only to realize that startups were more than product. Much more. Go figure.

Then started my pursuit of learning – watching my first fail, my second sell, and now onto my third – raising venture capital and taking me halfway across the world to the world’s most notorious tech hub, San Francisco – where my learning really began.

Help me, help the next generation of founders.

In return, I only ask one thing from you. If you got value from this, or know someone it might help, share it with them. While it’s our job as founders to pretend we have the answers, more often than not we don’t. Continuous learning is at the foundation of all great startups.
